This blog highlights my experiences at the 32nd Youth Festival, "Bhavspandan Yuvak Mahotsav," organized by Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University on October 17, 18, and 19, 2024. This year's festival was hosted by the Department of Physical Education and featured a variety of engaging events that showcased the talents and enthusiasm of the participants. Join me as I recount my journey through this vibrant celebration of youth and creativity!
This year the Youth Festival was held on 16th to 19th October. Here is a time table of all the event.
On 16th October, the kalayatra took place, and we were preparing for it. Here are some glimpses of that."
Kalayatra :
For the kalayatra, we have selected the topic of the current situation of the education system and its obstacles. We have prepared posters, some handwritten and some in printed form. Kalayatra started from Samaldas college at 4;30 pm and we reached at Swaminarayan School campus at 7:15 pm.
Inauguration Ceremony :
The ceremony began at 10:00 Am on 17 Oct. There was lighting lamp ceremony followed by prayer and university song.
Additionally, a Shruti performance was delivered by the Kalapath Group with the central theme of Narivandana, featuring songs like, "Rangreza".
Skit :
The skit addressed critical themes surrounding women's challenges and the urgent need for empowerment. It opened with serious issues such as unemployment and flaws in the educational system, while also touching on the poor condition of roads in India, corruption in job recruitment, and the push for a paperless society. Central to the narrative was a unifying message of solidarity among all Indians and reflections on Gandhian philosophy of non-violence.
The performance tackled a wide array of significant topics, beginning with the harsh realities of unemployment and the societal impact of rape cases. It highlighted the struggles faced by women, explored the concept of women's empowerment, and raised provocative questions around issues like “Gandhi Marte Kyun Nahi Hai” (Why Isn’t Gandhi Dead?) and the notion of “Hum Sab 1 hai” (We Are All One). Additionally, it addressed the pervasive corruption in employment, aspirations encapsulated in the phrase “Hu sapana thoda vechu chu” (I Want to Sell My Dreams), and the deteriorating infrastructure in Bhavnagar.
Throughout the skit, characters portrayed the emotional toll of joblessness and financial strain, illustrating how these challenges can affect mental well-being. It also examined the complexities victims face in rape cases, including the interplay of legal, societal, and emotional barriers to justice. The performance was inclusive, shedding light on the issues faced by individuals who identify outside the traditional male-female binary, highlighting their struggles for recognition and opportunity.
Using humor to address serious topics, the skit effectively engaged the audience, employing music, varied vocal delivery, and dynamic pacing to create a memorable experience reminiscent of Horatian satire from the Neo-Classical era.
The song "Baki Sab Thik Bas Chal Raha Hai" is one of my favorites because it satirically captures everything that needs to be said. This unique tune is also featured in "Bhediya." The satirical dialogues are imaginative and powerful, filled with subtle humor, while the characters' emotions and costume designs are incredibly appealing.
The plot is equally captivating, unfolding alongside the characters' statements. It delivers a poignant message to today’s youth and reflects contemporary issues, including the problems related to the caste system.
A similar theme is explored in the Sub TV series "Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah," where the character Sunita plays a greengrocer, and her husband drives a tempo while their daughter Tanvi is part of the story (click here to watch the full episode). This episode depicts various important scenes and addresses the pressing issue of caste inequality and the need for donations.
Middle-class and lower-class youth are often influenced by higher-class schools. Some kids aspire to attend well-run, engaging institutions, but often, these dreams remain just that—dreams.

First, based on their clothes and setting arrangements, I just noticed that the background of the one-act play is set in the village. We can observe that characters in this one-act drama depict the basic beauty of a villager's life. Through debate, they strengthen the power of originality and traditional values. They follow the natural flow of speech, preserving the peasants' ability to voice their opinions.
Some Glimpses :-
Bhajan :
When comparing Bhajans to English literature, we can explore their themes, styles, and cultural nuances. Bhajans often delve into themes of solitude, spiritual yearning, love, and self-discovery. While English literature addresses similar themes, the way Bhajans emphasize these aspects is distinctly rooted in Gujarati culture.
The use of Gujarati phrases, such as "મોતીડા પરોવો પાનબાઈ," adds a rich layer of cultural specificity to Bhajans. In a parallel manner, English literature often incorporates cultural elements that vary based on the author and the narrative context.
Narratively, Bhajans can be seen as stories that explore personal journeys, akin to novels or essays. The variety of Bhajans performed showcases a diverse range of themes and experiences within this literary form.
A notable feature of Bhajans is their philosophical undertone, often reflecting the idea of "Vairagya," or detachment. Phrases like "Ghadvaiya mare Thakorji nathi thavu" (Even if the world falls apart, I won't abandon my Lord), "Mane jya game che tya Haru chu faru chu" (I wander aimlessly in search of my Lord), "AMbani Dale Koyal ji re" (Oh Koyal, sing in the Ambe grove), "Zer to pidha jani jani re" (Drinking poison knowingly), "Shilvant Sadhune" (Oh wise sage), "Odhaji" (Oh Odhaji), and "Dhuni re Dhakhavi re beli" (Oh bonfire, burn brightly) illustrate this philosophical richness.

Elocution :
Though we didn't secure a position in this year's Youth Festival, the journey itself was an unforgettable experience filled with growth and resilience. I had the privilege of witnessing the unwavering dedication and effort put forth by each member of our department.
Through this festival, we learned what it means to unite as a team, to uplift one another, and to handle every responsibility with purpose. We managed everything ourselves—organizing the Kalyatra, coordinating backstage, and ensuring each event ran smoothly. The encouragement and camaraderie within the team were truly inspiring.
We made the most of every moment during the three days, especially enjoying the honor of hosting the literature events. The university’s support with food, transportation, and accommodation went a long way, while the tireless efforts of the volunteer team exemplified selflessness in action.
We leave the Youth Festival not with awards but with invaluable lessons, and we'll carry these forward, determined to keep growing and supporting each other.
